HAPPY EASTER TO ONE AND ALL!

We hope that everyone had an excellent break from school, and enjoyed a Happy Easter.

CHARTRES PILGRIMAGE AND TOUR OF EUROPE

Students traveling to France and Italy with the school are looking forward to this year’s trip departing
May 20 from Vancouver. We will spend two nights in Paris and then don our walking shoes to make our
way on the three day walking pilgrimage from the Notre Dame in Paris to the Notre Dame in Chartres.
We will be praying for all of your intentions along the way! Once we arrive in Chartres, we continue on
to two days at the abbey of Fontgombault, then to Ars, Paray Le Monial, Nevers, La Salette, Lyon, and
finally Turin to see the Holy Shroud. Students return June 3. Offered every two years, this trip is the
first of this kind to be carried out in the last ten years at TLA. We look forward to an excellent
experience and the return of regular pilgrimage trips.

MARCH FOR LIFE – THURSDAY, MAY 14 – GRADES 8-12

TLA high school students and teachers will make their way to Victoria for this annual event.
Please note that the school bus will depart TLA at 7:00 AM SHARP.
Those arriving at TLA after that point may proceed directly to join us at the Terminal in Tsawwassen in
time for the 9:00 AM ferry. (Students must be at the terminal no later than 8:30.)

SATURDAY, MAY 2, 9:00 AM – LAST WORK BEE

This is our last major work bee of the school year – if you still have hours to complete, here is the
chance! We will be painting, mudding in preparation for installing baseboards, gardening, inside window
and ledge cleaning, power washing, and more! INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS MUST CONTACT THE
OFFICE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 1ST, AT 9:00 AM. It is necessary that people who wish to
attend the work bee sign up beforehand, and if they need to cancel, they must let the office know by
9:00 AM Friday (tomorrow).
All parent participation hours must be completed by June 30.

PPP ELIGIBLE HOURS UPDATE

For class field trips, transportation to camps, sports team transportation, extended trips involving
overnight stays etc., drivers who take a minimum of four participating students, will be given PPP hours
for the driving time, to a maximum of five hours per total trip. The teacher in charge of the field trip will
be responsible for submitting the hours of the trip driving times to the general timekeeper recorder.

TLA TUITION PACKAGES 2015/2016

Tuition letters for the coming school year were sent home last Friday, April 24. Parents are requested to
return all the required items for the upcoming year’s registration at the same time. Parents who have
submitted their 15, undated cheques for the Parent Participation Program at the beginning of the current
year, and who have completed all their hours for this school year, do not need to submit more cheques.
However, the long pink form for the PPP must be resubmitted each year with updated and current
information. We are looking for leaders for next year’s work categories; See Mrs. Lavrikova!

TRADITIONAL LEARNING ACADEMY BUILDING & BURSARY

The Traditional Learning Society of BC has been active since the early 1990’s and oversees our own
school, a Distributed Learning centre, a Home School Support centre, and the fostering of other
independent schools in BC. In our TLA Coquitlam setting, we are looking for members to join two sub
committees, one for Building and Facilities, the other for our Tuition and Bursary structure. We need
your valuable assistance in this! Please contact the office.

SATURDAY, MAY 9 – BIRTHRIGHT MASS AT HOLY ROSARY

Students are encouraged to join the choir for this annual event at the cathedral, sponsored by TLA. All
of our families are encouraged to attend. The event begins at 11:30 AM with the Rosary and devotions,
with Mass to follow at noon. We wish to extend the invitation to all students who are first Communicants
and their families, to take part in the day’s procession and May Crowning of Our Lady.

HAIRCUTS RESUME IN TIME FOR SPRING WEATHER!

Renowned Yaletown stylist, Mrs. Lyra Suelzen, returns to TLA at lunchtime on Wednesdays. Please
contact the office if your son or daughter needs a haircut!

TLA LIBRARY RESOURCES AVAILABLE

We encourage you to take advantage of the many and varied resources for parents and students from
the TLA library. These include family friendly DVDs non-fiction & fiction, audio books and radio dramas
for long (or short!) car rides, and a public resource section for adult reading with lots of good books.
Use your library!

ARTIST FOCUS CLASS AT 4 CATS STUDIO

4 Cats Studio on Austin Avenue in Coquitlam is offering an Artist Focus Class on Faith Ringgold. The
six, once per week sessions, starting May 11, teach students in grades one to five to create artwork in
the style of notable artists while learning about the artists themselves, in a child friendly way. Cost for
the course is $120.00, Please call 604-917-0111 for more information. Financial assistance is available
from 4 Cats Studio for qualified applicants; please contact the TLA office for bursary information.

FUND RAISING NEWS

Please keep your eyes peeled for flyers from the school advertizing the latest fund raising
activities! We look for wholehearted parental involvement in these activities, and encourage you
to include your neighbours, friends, and non-TLA family members.

STUDENT LIFE UPDATES

Track And Field Meet for Grades 3-7 Students May 4: Students will leave on the
school bus from TLA at 9:30 on Monday for the event at Town Centre in Coquitlam.
Parents must pick up their student athletes at 3:00 PM at the track located at 1299
Pinetree Way in Coquitlam, (V3B 7S4)

Mr. Peter Nation, from Catholic Answers, addressed the senior classes in defending
Catholic doctrine in the areas of marriage and family, giving them ideas and approaches
to lead others to the truth.

Mass on Friday May 1: Fr. Daniel Geddes will offer Mass in the chapel tomorrow on the
feast of St. Joseph the Worker, for the repose of the soul of Yoshi Torres, TLA class of
‘98. Students in grades 1, and grades 4 – 12 will attend.

Pilgrimage Intentions: All TLA students and families are invited to send their prayer
intentions along with the TLA Pilgrims on the way to Chartres!

Makin House Field Trip for Kindergarten Mrs. Biros, Mrs. Rowan, and the class will
make their way on May 21 to the museum for the morning.
