WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
We wish to welcome back to school all returning families and all new students and families, as well as
the new teachers who have joined us at TLA. We look forward to another successful year at school!
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE OF STUDENTS
Drivers are reminded that there is no student drop-off or pick-up in the staff parking lot. Drivers
are requested to drop off their passengers on the sidewalks, and then leave the area to allow others to
deliver their passengers safely. Thank you for making our local streets safe for students.
GRADES 8, 11 & 12 KAYAK TRIP – FRI, SEPT. 21(TBC)
Mrs. Akhurst, Mr. Cameron McManus, Mr. Garry Moore, and Mr. Martin Dale, with kayak
instructor/guides from Rocky Point Kayak, will accompany our students on this annual trip up Indian
Arm to Twin Islands on Friday, September 21. All students in these three grades will meet at 8:00 AM
at Belcarra Park for their instruction before heading out onto the water. Our annual Kayak Leadership
Trip is designed to provide the opportunity for the senior students to welcome the grade eights into high
school and to involve them in several leadership activities. Forms will be sent home soon; please return
these to the home room teachers immediately.
TLA WALK-A-THON 2018 – Thursday, October 4
The race is on to collect pledges for this year’s Walk-A-Thon! All TLA students take an active part in
this major school fund raiser, qualifying for cash and prizes according to their individual and class
achievements. The Walk-A-Thon is a major contributor to our school budget and we hope this year to
top $35,000.00, which works out at an average of $180.00 per student as our goal. Pledge sheets will
be sent home shortly, and more are available at the school office.
WELCOME BACK BBQ THURSDAY, SEPT. 13, 6:00PM
We look forward to getting together with all our TLA families at this beginning-of-the-year event at school! Come to meet the teachers in the activity room at 6:00 PM, and to hear about this year’s
activities, followed by our ever popular BBQ in the back yard. WEATHER PERMITTING!
FRONT DOOR USE
A friendly reminder that the front door is for the use of adults and the grade 11/12 students. Students in
grades K – 10 enter and leave the school by the back door, between 8:45 AM and 4:00 PM. After that
time, or if a student is late for school, they may use the front door.
SCHOOLYARD SUPERVISION
TLA provides school yard supervision from 8:30 – 8:45 AM, and from 3:00 – 3:15 PM. Parents who
wish to supervise their own children in the school yard before or after those times are welcome to do so,
but elementary aged students must not be left in the schoolgrounds unsupervised. TLA offers after
school care for those unable to collect their students by 3:15.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE AVAILABLE AT TLA
After school care is now available at TLA on schooldays until 5:30 PM, for students aged 5 – 12,
provided by Gamesters FUNdamentals, Inc. The program is led by Holly Green, who has been an early
childhood educator for many years. Registration is now open for full and part time placement. Please
contact Lottie Gamester at 778-227-4335, for further information or to register.
SCHOOL UNIFORM NOTICE
School uniforms must be worn in their entirety for arrival and dismissal from school. Teachers will
advise students of infractions, which must be taken care of as soon as possible. School shoes in
particular require attention at the moment, as some students are arriving in running shoes which are not
in compliance with the dress code. Students may bring an extra pair of running shoes for recess and
lunchtime use, and which are left at school.
TUITION PAYMENTS IN CASH
Families are welcome to pay tuition in the form of cheques, debit & credit cards, and cash at the school
office. If you wish to pay in cash, please bring your payment in the exact amount, in order to make the
process easier for all. Your assistance in this matter is sincerely appreciated!
