WALK – A – THON THIS THURSDAY!

We are back to Mackin Park this year again for our annual school walk-a-thon. Students will arrive at TLA at the regular time, and will proceed with their homeroom teachers to the park as part of the 10/15km walk. Elementary students will be dismissed from the park to parents and drivers beginning at 11:30 AM. High school students will be dismissed by checking in with their home room teachers once they have finished the walk, again beginning at 11:30 AM. All students must leave the park by 12:00 Noon. Students will take all belongings which they need for the long weekend home with them on Wednesday night, or they may carry belongings to the park on Thursday morning.

We have reached just over $29,000.00 in pledges as of this morning, so we still have some way to go to meet our goal of $40,000.00. To date there are still 40 students not reporting any pledges. All students take part in this event and we look forward to a surge of pledges right up to the October 21 Pledge Submission Deadline. Please encourage your children do their very best to make this Walk-A-Thon the best ever!

The school will be closed by 1:00 PM, Thursday, for the weekend.

A hearty thank you to this year’s TLA Walk-A-Thon coordinators, Mrs. Codruta Cadis, and Mrs. Becky Galan, as well as to the parents who have volunteered to help with this annual major fund raiser!

To help make the day a success, please ensure that the following points are noted:

1. Students must come to school in their gym strip, ready to walk. School uniforms will not be worn. Students in kindergarten to grade three, as well as grade 12 students may wear comparable wear, shorts to mid-thigh length or sweat pants, t-shirts, socks and running shoes.

2. Students should dress for the weather. It is forecast to rain on Thursday, with cloudy skies, so rain jackets, umbrellas and hats would work well – but stay tuned to the weather forecasts – we may even need sunscreen..

3. Complimentary Hot Chocolate will be served once students have finished six laps of the park, and partipants have the opportunity to pre-order hot dogs which will be served 11:00 AM. Students must bring their own filled water bottles, labelled for easy identification.

4. Students should pack an extra snack to be consumed on the walk.

5. Students will be dismissed from park starting at 11:30 AM, with all students gone from the park by 12:00 Noon. Parents and drivers please be on time!

6. Students who may need the use of an Epi Pen, must make sure they wear them on them for the day.

7. Students will carry cards which will be marked to indicate how many kilometres are completed. These cards will serve as proof of completion of the Walk-A-Thon as students collect any outstanding pledges. All funds must be turned to the school on Monday, October 21. Pledge money must be brought to the school in the form of cheques: one from the family for any cash collected, and any others from individual donors, accompanied by all pledge form(s). (This avoids the danger of any loss and saves a tremendous amount of time in the office.)

8. The Walk-a-Thon Prize Assembly will be scheduled in late October/Early November.

9. There is still time to get more pledges! Pledges may be collected up until the October 21 return date. For the purposes of student awards for pledges, totals will be calculated on the amounts submitted that day. Students who do not submit their totals by the October 21 deadline will still receive the number of raffle tickets corresponding to their final submitted total.

Green Category (For students with pledge totals of $10.00 – $149.99)

Multiple Prizes including $75.00 in Cash

Blue Category (For students with pledge totals of $150.00 – $249.99)

Multiple Prizes including $300.00 Cash

Red Category (For students with pledge amounts of $250.00 and over)

Multiple Prizes including $500.00 Cash

For every ten dollars in pledges collected, students receive a ticket for the prize raffles.

Select prizes may be traded-in at the stores where they were purchased; the majority must be accepted as-is: students place their coupons in boxes to win those particular prizes.
