BBQ, Uniforms, COVID-19 safety plan updates, student drop off
Welcome back to school!
We extend a warm welcome to students and families new and old as we begin the academic year. It is our sincerest hope that the summer holidays have been a time of rest and relaxation for everyone. To ensure a smooth transition back to school, we have outlined below a few important items for your consideration. This message is being sent as an email fan out on Labour Day and as a hard copy to all families on the first day of school. Those of you new to the school or who have changed your email contacts recently, please send an email message with this information and your family name to the office (tlaoffice@traditionallearning.com), subject Line: EMAIL CONTACT FOR NEWSLETTERS. We want everyone to get news in a timely manner!
Our annual Back to School BBQ will place this year, on Thursday, September 15. This event offers the chance to be formally introduced to the teachers and to meet other TLA families, as well as to hear some of the highlights of the school year.
School Uniforms Any students who do not have complete school uniforms are required to wear comparable items until the official school uniforms arrive; we understand that there are a number of items on back-order at this time. Please send a note to the home room teacher with the student indicating when the missing items will be in place. Also, please pay specific attention to the instructions on the uniform code published by the school. Footwear, shirt styles, kilt length, etc. are all clearly described in the code and will be checked by teachers as students return to school. A number of parents as well as the TLA staff have been concerned about the consistency of the enforcement of the school uniform code, and we want to be consistent and accurate in our expectations for the students. It is also very important for all uniform items to be marked with the student names.
COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan Modifications
Fraser Health has advised us that the requirements for Covid-19 have been adjusted to the following:
-
Masks are not mandated but students have the option to wear them if they wish.
-
The school will not be providing masks for students.
-
People are strongly discouraged from testing themselves if they do not exhibit symptoms – fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, & diarrhea. Students should stay home if they are sick.
-
If you test positive for Covid-19, simply stay home for five days.
Please stay tuned for more updates which may be forwarded to you this coming week. I look forward to the beginning of school with all of our new and existing families and students!
The School Calendar is still in its DRAFT phase due to our upcoming seismic upgrade of the building. Firm dates for important holidays and the like will be sent home shortly.
Student Drop Off – Parents other than those with Kindergarten students for the first week, are asked to pick up and drop off students at the front or back gates, and not to accompany them to the line up. This avoids traffic congestion at the drop-off spots making things safer for everyone. Parents wishing to come to the school grounds should enter by the front door and proceed directly to the school office. Thank you!
Cheers and God bless, Martin Dale, Principal
