Revisions and Reminders – Health and Safety
The Ministry has updated the COVID Morning Checklist which parents use to assess student health before coming to school.
The following symptoms have been removed from the daily checklist:
Sore throat
Runny/stuffy nose
Headache
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Muscle aches
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Dizziness, confusion
Abdominal pain
Skin rash or discolouration of fingers and toes
The following symptoms remain on the daily checklist:
Fever
Chills
Cough or worsening of chronic cough
Shortness of breath
Loss of sense of smell or taste
Diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting
A reminder that parents and adult visitors to the school are required to limit their entrance and exit of the school to the front doors, to sanitize their hands upon entry, and to stay within the foyer and office. Those who have appointments with teachers after school hours, requiring them to enter the hallways or classes must sign the TLA COVID-19 Visitor Log/Questionnaire located on the main desk in the office, and preserve physical distancing while in the building; where this is impossible, they may wear masks.
Parents and drivers are also reminded that students must proceed unaccompanied into the school grounds at drop-off time in the morning, and then wait for them outside the fences at 3:00 PM dismissal; Grades K – 4 parents may stand next to the driveway/playground wall at the east side of the school at dismissal time, to collect students in those grades.
PLEASE BE ON TIME TO COLLECT YOUR CHILDREN; PROMPT PICK UP AND DROPP OFF OF STUDENTS IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR UPDATED HEALTH & SAFETY PLAN.
Walk-A-Thon News
Students completed their walk-a-thon efforts on Thursday of last week on site, at Mackin Park, and at the Centennial Track, according to their individual cohorts. The weather cooperated in conjunction with the help of St. Joseph!
Our total pledge collection has reached well over $20,000.00, with the average student pledge amount at nearly $130.00. A number of students have yet to report their pledges, so we can look forward to a very healthy total by the time we reach our cut off date of Monday, October 26. Our prize raffle will go ahead once the totals have been submitted to the office. Please do not send cheques or pledge sheets in to the office until the final date!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT OF OUR 2020 TLA WALK-A-THON!
Bubble Ball Comes to TLA!
Students from Grade 2 – Grade 12, along with their teachers, will have the opportunity to compete in this exciting, first-time-at-TLA, Covid-19-friendly activity where students don giant, inflatable clear plastic spheres to play a variety of games on our school field. Weather permitting, it will take place Thursday, October 22nd, all day. Students should each have a twenty-minute session of competition. The Bubble Ball staff adhere to the strictest sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all students.
Photo Day – Friday, October 23.
Parents need to “opt-in” to the link below in order to view their children’s photos which will be taken next Friday. If parents do not opt-in they will not be able to view their children’s photos as the company is not offering any paper proofs this year, and everything is digital.

Parent Participation FAQs
Our Parent Participation Coordinators, Mrs. Noemi Bucci and Mrs. Lottie Gamester, have provided a comprehensive list of “Frequently Asked Questions” as a refresher to our veteran parents and a clarification for new parents regarding the program. This is being sent electronically to all our families, if you do not receive it, please contact the office to let us know your new email address! Anyone wishing a hard copy of the FAQ sheets, may obtain them from the office.
First Aid Course for All Staff at TLA
Our latest Pro D Day was devoted to the upgrading of all TLA staff in Emergency First Aid and CPR training by the competent folk at Safe + Sound First Aid Training Ltd., a Canadian Red Cross Training Partner. Taking place just before the Thanksgiving weekend, all participants passed with flying colours!
Interim Reports Issued October 30
Please keep your eyes peeled for the first reports of the school year. These reports are to give parents a snapshot of their children’s progress at this time during the first term.
Letter grades are not assigned at this time; student progress will be recorded as, “1 – Meeting Expectations”, “2 – Needs Improvement”, and, “3 – At Risk of Failure”. Following these reports parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss the reports. The manner of these meetings, in-person, on the phone, or virtually, will be announced when the reports are issued.
