FLU SEASON ARRIVES AT TLA

The first two days of this week has seen up to 1/3 of our students and three staff members absent from school due to the flu. In our discussion with the provincial health authorities, it appears that we have been experiencing the effects of Norovirus. We are reminding students to ensure that they cover their mouths with their elbows when coughing or sneezing, that they not share drinks or food of any kind, and that they wash their hands or sanitize them frequently as means to prevent the spread of this particularly intense virus. Parents must ensure that students with signs of illness do not return to school until 48 hours after the symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea have ceased. Please see the accompanying Norovirus article from the BC Centre for Disease Control.

NOROVIRUS SCHOOL SANITIZING BEES

The authorities have advised us to have the various school surfaces sanitized with a bleach solution to lessen the chance of infection by the current virus. Parent Participation Hours will be credited to any parents who take part in this activity. We would like to do one session this Wednesday afternoon following school, and then again on Thursday after school. Please contact the school office if you are able to help us in this way. Gloves and cleaning supplies will be provided at the school for this purpose.

TLA FUNDRAISING DINNER AUCTION ITEMS

We are seeking items for the live and silent auctions at our upcoming dinner dance, January 23, and we ask you to consider donating something to be used in this way. In the past donations have included household knick-knacks such as mugs and small utensils, pens, chocolate bars, gift baskets, time at personal cabins or timeshares at resorts, gift certificates, art pieces, new books, furniture, antiques, sporting goods, jewellery, harbour cruises aboard private yachts, plants, household services, gourmet dinners for eight, etc. Nothing is too big or too small for this entertaining portion of our evening!
