WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
We wish to welcome all new students and families, as well as everyone who is returning to TLA. We
look forward to another successful year at school!
FIRST SCHOOL MASS
Our first school Mass was held yesterday on the feast of The Most Holy Name of Mary, in our school
chapel. Fr. Daniel Geddes, FSSP, our TLA chaplain, offered this Mass with grade 4 – 12 students and
corresponding staff in attendance. We will announce upcoming Masses for our parents to have the
opportunity to attend. The Mass on September 23 which was mentioned in the calendar will be
rescheduled.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE OF STUDENTS
Drivers are reminded that there is no student drop off or pick up in the staff parking lot. Drivers
are requested to drop off their passengers at the sidewalks, and then leave the area to allow others to
deliver their passengers safely. Thank you for making our local streets safe for students.
GRADE 8 & 12 KAYAK TRIP POSTPONED
Mrs. Akhurst, Mr. Martin Lavrik, Mr. Martin Dale, and several kayak instructor/guides will accompany
these classes on this annual trip up Indian Arm to Twin Islands later this month. Our original date has
been changed from the 16th of September, to a date later this month. All students in these two grades
will meet at 8:00 AM at Belcarra Park for their instruction before heading out onto the water. Our
annual Kayak Leadership Trip is designed to provide the opportunity for the grade twelve class to
welcome the grade eight students into high school and to involve them in several leadership activities.
Forms will be sent home once our date is confirmed; please return these to the home room teachers as
soon as possible.
MINISTRY OF EDUCATION LETTER
Please see the attached letter and information from the government regarding implementation of the
new curriculum. Dated at a very busy time of the last school year, we delayed the distribution of the
letter to coincide with the beginning of this school year when parents may have more time to digest the
information.
TLAWALK-A-THON 2016 – Thursday, October 6
The race is on to collect pledges for this year’s Walk-A-Thon. All TLA students must take an active part
in this major school fund raiser, qualifying for cash and prizes according to their individual and class
achievements. The Walk-A-Thon is a significant contributor to our school economy and we hope this
year to top $35,000.00. That works out at an average of $180.00 per student as our goal. Pledge
sheets have been sent home and more are available at the school office. Thank you to Mrs. Vicki
Guzikowski for coordinating this year’s prizes and event.
PICTURE DAY TOMORROW!
Student Portraits will be taken tomorrow and parents will have the opportunity to order pictures as they
wish following the event.
PREGNANCY CONCERNS THANKS
Our local volunteer agency which helps mothers in distress sends the TLA community its thanks for the
$338.18 contribution in the Baby Bottle Drive last school year. Your generosity is most appreciated.
WELCOME BACK BARBECUE THURSDAY, SEPT. 15
All TLA families are invited to this beginning of the year event at school! Come to meet the teachers in
the activity room at 6:00 PM, and to hear about this year’s activities, followed by our ever popular BBQ
