TLA Skiing/Boarding Program February/March 2023

Dear Parents of TLA Grade 5 –11 Students: January 31, 2023

TLA is once again pleased to offer students in grades five through eleven a program of four skiing or snow boarding lessons on Grouse Mountain, the Peak of Vancouver, on Friday, February 10 & 24, Friday, March 3 &

Thursday, March 9 (Last school day before Spring Break).

We require a minimum of 20 participants in the lesson program for it to take place, and the intent to participate must be submitted by 9:00 AM on Wednesday, February 1.

Grouse Mountain’s snow programs appeal to students of all levels and abilities. An emphasis will be on developing skills and good sportsmanship in an enjoyable and playful winter environment. Led by certified instructors during lesson time, students will be supervised in a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Pricing for all options is outlined on the request form attached. To maintain this low cost, we require teacher & parent assistance in transporting students to the mountain. Parents unable to participate in this way will be charged an additional $15.00 per student which will be used to offset the cost of fuel for parents who are able to drive.

Transportation to the mountain will depart TLA at the following times, PARTICULAR TO THE DATES:

Friday, February 10 – 12:30 PM (Lesson Starts at 2:30 PM)

Friday, February 24 – 3:15 PM (Lesson Starts at 6:30 PM)

Friday, March 3 – 2:30 PM (Lesson Starts at 4:30 PM)

THURSDAY, March 9 – 12:30 PM (Lesson Starts at 2:30 PM)

This will allow students to arrive at the mountain in time to take the Skyride from the base to their lessons on that particular day. Atop the mountain they will collect any rental equipment and will meet half an hour before the day’s lesson. Following lessons, students will check with teacher/supervisors, after which they may take a dinner break before returning to the slopes to practice their skiing and boarding. Teacher supervisors and elementary students will meet at the Skyride at 8:50 to board the 9:00 PM Skyride to the mountain base where students are dismissed to waiting parents or to take public transit home.

During lessons, all students are supervised by Grouse Mountain ski and snowboard instructors. After the lessons, high school students are dismissed from the program and may stay on the mountain until their parents wish them to leave. Students in elementary grades will rejoin the staff at 8:50 PM at the top of the Skyride to check in and proceed to the mountain base where they will be met by parents. TLA staff and parent supervisors are on the mountain from the start of the program until the departure of the 9:00 PM Skyride. Elementary students will be dismissed to their parents at the Grouse Mountain parking lot at the base of the gondola at 9:10 PM. Parents must arrange for student pick-up at that time or give permission for them to leave at a later time, unsupervised, according to the permission that they indicate on the Snow Program Request Form. Due to the deadline issued by Grouse Mountain, the request form must be returned to TLA by Wednesday, February 1, at 9:00 AM with payment to TLA by cheque or cash, or, if you wish, by Visa/Mastercard/Debit at the school office. This must include the student information regarding ability levels and shoe size for rental equipment. Please choose the “PROGRAM TYPE” which fits the student’s needs;

Lessons +Lift+Rental is for students with no ski/snowboard equipment nor a Grouse Mountain Season’s Lift Pass,

Lessons+Lift is for students in possession their own ski/snowboard equipment, but with no Season’s Lift Pass,

Lessons+Rental is for students with a Grouse Mountain Season’s Lift Pass but no ski or snowboard equipment,

Lessons (only) is for students in possession of a Grouse Mountain Season’s Lift Pass and their own equipment.

Once we receive the request form, we will forward you the following appropriate waivers:

Ski and Board Zone Waivers must be completed by all participants.

Terrain Park Guidelines must be completed and signed by all participants.

Alpine Responsibility Codes must be completed and signed by all participants.

I apologize for the late notice, but we have only just been informed of the availability of lessons on Grouse Mountain. Please double-check your forms as they are complicated and items are easily missed! We look forward to another successful snow program on the Peak of Vancouver!

Yours cordially,

Martin Dale, Principal
