Seismic Upgrade Update; Pick Up and Drop Off Safety Concerns; Fundraising Update!; February Work Bee

Seismic Upgrade Update
: Our Scope Report is in its final stage of preparation to be presented to the Archdiocese by this month, and we will then be in a position to set things in place for the coming school year with respect to the calendar. Please see the Calendar Updates below.

External Evaluation at TLA: The Ministry team who visited TLA on Friday, the 25th of November, has provided their report to us. We are following up on this report and will have everything completed by this week! This six-year evaluation went very well and we may be delighted with our school’s standing.

Pick Up and Drop Off Safety Concerns: A significant number of dangerous traffic and pedestrian manoeuvres are taking place before and after school at the drop-off points for our students. These actions pose considerable safety risks for our students, staff, and families, alike. Your consideration in following the school’s and civil authority’s rules in these matters is very much necessary for the safety of everyone involved:

  • Stopping in the school driveway to drop off passengers

  • Illegal U-Turns in traffic

  • Unloading passengers in the staff parking lot

  • Pedestrians failing to use the crosswalk, and J-walking

  • Leaving vehicles unattended in the drop-off zones – students must leave the vehicles, and drivers must move away immediately from these areas. Vehicles must not be left for any time in these zones, if you need more time, or to leave your vehicle for any reason, please park elsewhere.

  • Using our neighbours drive to turn around, or in other ways blocking them

Coquitlam Bylaw Enforcement will be monitoring the area for these violations and we ask that all students and drivers do their best to ensure that everyone arrives safely to school.

Parent and Visitor Protocol
: A New Year’s Reminder!

  • Parents and visitors are asked to enter the school by the front door, and to stop in at the office, before proceeding inside, and then again upon departure. This allows us to have an ongoing, accurate tally of who is in the building at a given time, and minimizes disruptions for classes and teachers.

  • Appointments to visit with teachers and the principal made through Mrs. Caan in the office, before you arrive at the school allow us to dedicate sufficient time to cover the topic. Additional information about the subject matter of the meeting should be added to the request to facilitate this.

  • When students need to be withdrawn early from school, a call to the office beforehand to give us a heads up is appreciated. This courtesy allows students and teachers to assemble whatever homework items are necessary for the evening’s activities in a timely and non-disruptive manner.
