Ministry Update For Covid–19 Protocols

Yesterday morning Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced several modifications which will affect our TLA Health and Safety Plan. Although personal protective equipment (including mask wearing) is the lowest level on the hierarchy of infection prevention and exposure control measures, it can provide an additional level of protection when more effective measures are not feasible. However, the use of masks will not reduce or replace the effective infection prevention and exposure control measures taking place at TLA, including:

  • Ensuring that students and staff stay home when they are sick or required to self-isolate, including ensuring everyone entering the school performs a daily health check;

  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfection;

  • Placing students and staff into their respective learning groups;

  • Adapting learning environments to maximize the use of space;

  • Ensuring physical distancing is maintained between learning groups;

  • Frequent hand hygiene

The following modifications to our school Health and Safety Plan are now in place:

  • TLA high school students must wear masks on school busses, in hallways, and entering classrooms, and their masks must remain in place in class at any time when the student is not sitting or standing at a desk. Students must wear masks during any group work activities. They do not need to wear masks while eating or drinking. Masks do not need to be worn outside.

  • Teachers must wear masks on school busses, in hallways, and entering classrooms, and their masks must remain in place in class at any time when when physical distancing may not be maintained. Teachers do not need to wear masks if they have a barrier in place, or if they are at their desks or the board. They do not need to wear masks while eating or drinking and masks do not need to be worn outside.

  • Those wearing masks must still maintain physical distancing whenever possible.

  • Elementary school students are not required to wear masks at any time at school or on school busses. Mask use for elementary students is directed by their families or care-givers and this choice will be respected.

  • The school will have non-medical masks available for staff and high school students who require them.

  • Exceptions will be made for staff and students who cannot tolerate masks for health or behavioural reasons; schools are not allowed to require a health care provider note to confirm if staff or students cannot wear masks.

Dangerous Driving Advisory

Our supervising teachers report that several instances of dangerous driving have taken place at the school entrance on Rochester Avenue. Illegal U-turns, stopping in the school driveway and in the intersection, as well as proceeding at speeds well above the 30 km/h school zone limit, are all putting the safety of our students at risk. We urge all drivers to proceed in ways which preserve the lives and health of everyone in our school neighbourhood. Our local RCMP Community policing officer will be monitoring the situation to assist us in this way.

Pro – D Days Feb. 11/12 & Family Day Holiday

Our staff will be taking part in the Catholic Educator’s Conference this coming Thursday and Friday; school will not be in session on those days. The following Monday, Feb. 15 is also a day off as we celebrate Family Day. We wish all families a pleasant and rejuvenating holiday.
